Eurail Trip 2023 Days 1 & 2

We had an evening flight out of Portland into Barcelona via London, Heathrow. We’re so thankful to have Steph, Philip and Jesse in Portland as a waypoint on journeys. They are so hospitable and we know we will be able to rest before or after a trip.

There was a delay leaving Portland which meant we were late arriving in London which created a series of unfortunate events that involved an odd bus ride once we got to the airport, long lines at security, Zane and I running in our stocking feet from one end of the terminal to the other, pleading with gate staff to not leave Colin and Jude behind, and finally sweating for ages in a sky bridge before finally boarding our flight to Barcelona. We decided not to sleep on the journey so that we would be synced up and ready to sleep when we arrived. This worked well for us, but we were pretty wrecked.

It was finally worth it to see the smiling faces of Graeme and Becky in Spain! Thankfully Graeme got us on the Metro and to our hotel as our brains were fried! We headed out from the hotel to get our bearings and to find some dinner.

Found a lovely street, Rambla del Poblenou, where lots of people were still out eating and socializing at 10 pm. We bought a bunch of empanadas and ate those. So yummy! Then we walked to the beach. On our way back, we were caught in a rainstorm.
Back to the hotel. Straight to bed for the most part, the boys were almost instantly asleep.
Slept really well. Thankful for air conditioning.

  1. Nice! And the best part is that this installment only takes us through the first day. Keep ’em coming, Melissa!!!
