Met up with G&B for hotel breakfast at 10 am. Great coffee, super yummy breakfast with pastries, meat, cheese, breads.
So much good conversation, laughter, not feeling rushed.
Made a plan for the day.
Headed off to the funicular and cable car up to Montjuïc.
Wandered around the park and Montjuic Castle. The boys had a great time speculating on defenses since there were cannons, old and new, at the fortress. Saw our ferry in the port from on top of Montjuic..
The park and view were so beautiful. Plants and trees and birds and butterflies. Jasmine filling the air with perfume.
Headed down into the Gothic Quarter in search of a late tapas lunch. Found a hole in the wall bar where the staff didn’t speak much English and there were mainly locals. We had fun attempting to use our limited Duolingo training to communicate. Throw in a bit of Google translate and we eventually ordered some beers and heaps of tapas. Mostly potato dishes. So good!
Continued wandering. Marveling at the architecture and beauty of the city. Wandered through a large market that had a fish stall. They sold an actual fish cake! Like a cake, made of fish. Yum? Found a supermarket to look through, bought some soda and took a break. Local supermarkets are one of my favorite places to go in foreign cities – it gives a fun insight into life and an inexpensive way to sample local treats.
Made our way to Las Ramblas which is like Oxford street in London. Very touristy, but some interesting things to see. Found a square full of pigeons and Zane walked out into the middle of them. The LEGO store was a treat!
Headed back to the hotel. The Metro is great. Went to our rooms and had a 45 minute rest, before heading back out to go to the beach. Sat at the beach; overlooking the beach on benches and then sitting in the sand chatting for a couple of hours, people watching, digging holes, refreshing our souls. Everyone put their feet in the Baleariac/Mediterranean Sea.
Went back to our lovely street and got some amazing gelato, returning to the hotel around 11.
