We headed down to breakfast. The nuns put on a terrific spread. Very kind and generous. Convents are the way to go! I’m still feeling quite dizzy, but not as nauseous as yesterday.
We headed off on the walking tour that Graeme had put together for us. A bit interesting since I walk like I’m drunk! Hopefully it will help me get my land legs back quicker.
We covered a lot of ground today. We saw the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, Piazza del Campidoglio, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, and so much more. The layers of history, the modern bleeding into the ancient. The moments of cool and calm when you walk into a church from the city street. The boys know quite a lot about Roman history so it’s fun to hear them talk about it and learn from them. We found this lovely hidden garden with a view of the city. We took a break there. It has a water fountain nearby to refill our bottles.
There are so many old buildings, ruins, churches, it’s hard to tell if something is famous. I also think we just reach a limit on how much we can take in and comprehend.
We had a yummy Italian meal of pasta and pizza in a gloriously air conditioned restaurant. Zane tried and enjoyed some new things.
Becky and I along with the boys, navigated our way from the center of the city to the convent on our own! Colin and Graeme went and picked up our laundry. We had a laundry service clean and fold our dirty clothes – this is a brilliant thing to have done. Glad to be back at the convent. Will have a quiet evening and early night. We will take the train to Venice tomorrow.
Hung out with G&B outside enjoying the scent of flowers in the cool of the evening.
