I figured I better get these Autumnesque photos out there before Winter gets here. Ha! We’ve had heaps of snow already and I’m loving it!

These outfits are from earlier in the season. My boys and I have a tradition of going to Drake Park in the Fall to take photos. We really live in such a beautiful place and I feel blessed to live in Bend.

So I thought I would share a few photos of them – proud Momma moment. After I took their pictures, I had the bright idea of having my seven year old take my outfit photos on this particular day. I don’t know why I haven’t thought of this before. He’s been getting into photography so it’s been a good idea for both of us. He’s learning and I’ve got a new photographer!

This is another eShakti dress. Love it! My sister and I both fell in love with it and got it on sale. Amazingly comfortable, great fit and pockets of course! And I think it’s pretty darn cute – a great Fall maxi dress. The fabric is pretty light weight and with the short sleeves, I can probably wear it in the Summer too.

Outfit Details: Dress – eShakti, Boots – Ross

I really do love dressing for cooler weather. I feel like I have so many more options. I’m going to work on not being a hot weather hater though. But seriously, when the weather is cool, I get to wear coats like the one below…

This is a vintage coat I got at a thrift store. I love it so very much. The fabric is amazing. I think I may have actually worn this coat most of the day – I wanted to make sure everyone saw it!

This is a dress from Target from a few years ago. I paired it with some vintage and modern accessories. This necklace was another thrift store find – love it! I think it looks like a mid-century wall hanging. My ring is another vintage earring that I made into a ring.

Outfit Details: Coat – vintage/thrifted, Dress – Target, Belt – ?, Boots – Ross, Leggings – Walmart, Necklace and Ring – vintage/thrifted.

If you are in the States, or if you celebrate Thanksgiving anywhere else, I hope you had a great day. I am so thankful for my life – with its many imperfections and challenges – it truly is a wonderful life. If you are into Black Friday shopping – I hope you find some amazing deals – be kind, have fun, be safe. I will not be venturing out to the shops, but I may have a look around at the online deals.

Make It Monday – Post-Christmas Wrap Up

I wanted to share a few things that I’ve made over the last couple of months – mostly things that were made  in preparation for Christmas.

I didn’t do as many handmade gifts for Christmas this year as I usually like to, but I enjoyed making the few things that I did. As always, I hope to be more prepared this coming year and start making things sooner. We shall see.

Anytime I get craft supplies out, my boys want to join in and start creating. In November I did a big craft clear out and got rid of heaps of stuff that wasn’t being used and organized the rest. All of my crafting supplies are stored in the garage since I don’t have a craft room. While I was organizing, the boys saw my jewelry making supplies and were asking repeatedly to make jewelry with me. So one evening while Colin was out, we set to it. It is so fun creating with my boys – I love to see what they come up with.

I also made a new crop of my repurposed vintage earring rings. My church has an annual Christmas Tea and Boutique and I make rings to sell at the boutique. I love making these rings. The designs are so beautiful and interesting.

For Jude’s first grade teacher, I had Jude making a drawing with a note and then I traced it on to fabric and then embroidered it for her. I think it’s a fun, simple and meaningful gift.

For my sons and my nephew, I created silhouettes along with the meanings of their names and then printed onto book pages. I framed them and I love how they turned out.

I did another printing on book pages project for some friends. They are fox fans so I printed a simple fox onto a book page and then hand painted it with watercolors. Then I wrote their name in calligraphy.

That’s my post-Christmas creation round-up. Here’s to a creative and more handmade 2014!

I’ve been laying low today. My youngest and I are both fighting colds. Bleh. I’m thankful that I had nothing official on the calendar today so that we could rest and watch Project Runway!

Here’s a few outfits from this last week.

Top knot buns are easily one of my favorite hairstyles. Mostly because they’re easy. I finally got to wear this top. I’ve had it for ages, but I actually took the time to do some ironing this week (It’s an annual thing). I don’t like to iron, at all. I do like having more clothing choices though.November 2013 166 November 2013 168 November 2013 170 November 2013 172I got lots of comments from the kids in Jude’s class about my ear cuff. They couldn’t figure it out, but they thought it was cool!

Outfit details: Top – Torrid, Skirt – Ross, Shoes – Payless, Ear cuff – Forever 21

I felt very ladylike in this outfit. A bit twee perhaps, but I hopefully offset it with my funky shoes and tights!November 2013 151 November 2013 153 November 2013 158 November 2013 160 November 2013 163Outfit details: Dress – Ross, Cardigan – Ross, Tights – Forever 21, Shoes – Dirty Laundry, Belt – Forever 21, Ring – Made by Me (Vintage Earring)

I love it when I can talk Colin into taking my photos. My smile is much more natural. There’s a lot of goofiness going on too.November 2013 015 (2) November 2013 014 November 2013 011 November 2013 013 November 2013 029 (2)Outfit details: Dress – Forever 21, Leggings – Forever 21, Shoes – Payless, Necklace – Vintage/Thrifted, Headband – I can’t remember where I got this head band, but I love it!

It has been so long since I’ve done a fashion post. So I have several outfits to share. Hang on to your hats – lots of images!

This is what happens when your husband takes your pictures for you, but he’d rather be playing with his boys.

OK – I have more outfit photos, but I’ll save them for later. We’re heading into warm weather and that’s when I start to dress more boringly. I’ll try not to live in the same outfit everyday for the next couple of months.

I think I need some skinnier jeans. I love my skinny jeans – wearing them under dresses is one of my favourite looks, but they are a bit baggy in the legs. Must add to wish list.

The following outfit is the only one I’m posting today that I’m not wearing skinny jeans in!

February 2013 174February 2013 172

I made this necklace out of a Scrabble tile and added an “I Love Colin” pendant that I found at Claires years ago when Colin Farrell was particularly popular. I really do love Colin, a lot, just not Colin Farrell. I love My Colin!

I wore the next outfit for a day out with my sister in Portland. It was such a lovely day. Full of good food, lots of walking, fun shops, great talks, and city time! So thankful for my sister.

One of the vintage shops we went to was called Fat Fancy. It’s a vintage clothes shop with clothes in sizes 12+. We had a great time and both found some amazing clothes. March 2013 015 March 2013 013Outfit details: Dress – vintage kaftan/robe altered by me, Jeans – Ross, Shoes – Blowfish, Earrings – Vintage

I love the stories that clothes can tell. The memories that they can evoke.

Take this dress. Love it, super comfy, bright, fun. It also has a bit missing where a goat had a nibble when we went to a petting “zoo” at the pumpkin patch with our kids and some friends.

And the boots. These are my Moon Boots. When I was growing up, I wanted a pair of Moon Boots so bad, but we couldn’t afford them. It wasn’t the end of the world and I got over it, but when this pair of shiny pink Moon Boots crossed my path on clearance many years ago, I knew it was destiny!

The shirt I’m wearing in the next outfit is a custom-made shirt from eShakti. It’s an online store where you put in your measurements and they will custom make clothes for you. I found that the two things that I have had from them so far are sized a little big so when I get something else, I will drop my measurements by an inch. Anyway, I love the shirt, I will have to figure out a way to alter it so that it fits a bit better. The quality is great.

Tights with shorts is one of my very favourite looks.

This ring is one that I made by upcycling vintage cluster earrings.

I love this dress! The style, the bird print. I don’t have many things in navy blue, so I wasn’t sure what to wear on my feet, but I think my grey boots work really well.

This last dress is the other thing that I had made by eShakti. They were having a good sale and I had a discount code as well. It is amazingly comfortable and of course, I love the owl print!

Make It Monday – Embroidery Hoops & Vintage Sheets

I have been having a jolly little time experimenting with sewing on vintage sheets. I love the patterns of vintage sheets & they are so soft. I’ve been scouring local thrift stores for vintage sheets for a while now, using them to make fort kits mostly, but I also knew that I would use the fabric for future projects. With the price of new fabric these days, vintage sheets are an inexpensive way to get great patterns and cloth for craft projects.

I’ve also been doing some metal stamping, which is great fun & I’m looking for more projects to use it in.

Here’s some of my latest…

I love that these are things that I can take along with me and sew when I am out and about. I can also use other crafty bits and pieces in these creations and every hoop I create will be unique. I play with the pattern of the sheets sometimes and other times I kind of ignore it and just use it as background.

I am also so excited that my four-year old son has taken to embroidery as well. He calls it “threading” and he’s very freestyle, though sometimes he sets out to make a “real” thing.

I haven’t finished the backs of his creations yet, but I wanted to share some of his work.

I have been thinking for a long time now of opening up my own little online shop for vintage & crafting. I will also sell local without a shop. I have so many wonderful vintage things that need to find a good home and I’m keen to sell some of my crafty things as well. Still working on logistics and creating stock, but it is fun to dream and plan. I’ll keep you apprised of developments.
