Photo Challenge 2017 – Week 5, Landscape: Black and White

I think the black and white landscapes can be challenging because it’s hard to have an image that is both high contrast and full of detail. I tried out a few different effects and have included the original image and the black and white images.

Hanging out at Pilot Butte, Bend, Oregon.

Day 264 – I love our dojo. Doing karate is such a challenging and overwhelming experience. I love the way things are done in out dojo – it’s tough, it’s hard, the standards are high. At the same time there is so much love and encouragement. This is one of our senseis receiving a black gi which is a big deal.

Photo a Day 2016 – Days 116-127

Day 116 – I often go for a wander outside the dojo when the boys are in karate class. I am drawn to pretty things – flowers and plants, but I’m also on the look out for interesting things. There’s a patch of undeveloped land near the dojo and I found this unusual plant on the ground that was dead or dying and it had a very cool spiral.

Day 120 – Here he is again. It’s his birthday week so I’ve taken lots of photos of him. This is Jude getting ready for bed. He’s had Beaver for so many years and he’s a bit worse for the wear, but still so precious. Jude and I have many great conversations while he is going to bed. He’s an amazingly deep and thoughtful boy. This is him on his 9th birthday.

Day 127 – I sculpted a bit today. It’s only a small sculpture, but it felt so good to create, to take something out of my thoughts and off the pages of my sketch book and make it real. It’s a bust with copper wire that i stripped from an old phone charger. It spirals around his head and is both whimsical¬†and entrapping.
